Early planning funded by EPA Land Revitalization program led to major investment in South Shore Line between Gary, IN and Chicago, IL.

With major state and federal funding in place, the South Shore Rail System double-tracking is underway. As part of this, the Miller Station located in Gary will become an origination station, reducing ride times to Chicago significantly. Also envisioned as part of the early planning funded by EPA and carried out by Vita Nuova is a new transit-oriented development, connecting neighborhoods on both sides of the tracks and creating access for all to the Lake.
