Armand Bayou Nature Center adds 1,147 acres to conservation area
Vita Nuova is proud to have supported the recent expansion of the Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) in Pasadena and Houston, Texas. This effort added 1,147 acres, formerly the ExxonMobil-owned Clear Lake Oil Field, to the preserve. With this addition, the total area of ABNC now spans 3,947 acres, making it one of Texas’ largest urban wilderness preserves.
Over a two-year period, the Vita Nuova team conducted detailed evaluations of environmental assessments and analysis of potential land uses, focusing on areas including abandoned oil and gas wells, flood plains, and wetlands. These efforts were crucial in determining the best uses for the land, identifying areas suitable for development and those that should be conserved, and ultimately, to the success of the land transfer from ExxonMobil to ABNC.
Supporting ExxonMobil’s efforts at complex sites since 2003, this is the latest sustainable disposition for Vita Nuova, said Michael Taylor, President of Vita Nuova LLC, a national consultancy dedicated to sustainable redevelopment of complex properties.
This expansion will enhance local biodiversity and improve vital ecosystem services, including flood mitigation, stormwater retention, carbon sequestration, and water quality improvement.
