Lakes Region Facility, Laconia, New Hampshire

Vita Nuova, working with SRA under USEPA contract, is leading a stakeholder-driven reuse planning process for the Lakes Region Facility in Laconia, New Hampshire.

This pilot project is the first to implement the new PREPARED Workbook which was developed by Vita Nuova and SRA for USEPA. PREPARED, the Process for Risk Evaluation, Property Analysis and Reuse Decisions, is intended to support the decision-making of the New Hampshire Commission to Evaluate Long-Term Uses of Lake Region Facility, who is charged with determining reuse options for the facility.

The Lakes Region Facility is a closed women's prison first open in 1903 as the New Hampshire School for the Feeble-minded. The facility features 26 buildings on 212 acres overlooking Opechee Bay.

The reuse planning process will include an opportunities and constraints analysis, environmental analysis, stakeholder interviews and meetings and development of reuse options. Vita Nuova specializes in the repositioning and reuse of complex properties where multiple stakeholders have an interest in the property.
