Connecticut Governor Proposes Consolidated Department of Energy and Environmental Protection

On February 8, 2011, Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy announced a plan to create a new Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. The new department will merge the Department of Public Utility Control and the Department of Environmental Protection. The move will also create two new bureaus:
  • Bureau of Energy Policy and Efficiency - The Bureau will develop and analyze energy policy and manage energy costs and usage in state-run facilities through the Division of Energy Policy and Program Development and the Division of Government Energy Management.
  • Bureau of Utilities Control - The Bureau will conduct management audits of public service companies, oversee legal notices, conduct public hearings, and conduct necessary investigations.
