Mark J. Papa, ASLA
Landscape Architect / Site Planner
Mark Papa has over 18 years experience in the landscape / site construction, planning and design industry, including single and multi-family residential, commercial, municipal, environmental, parks and recreational land use planning, and site design / engineering projects.
As a landscape architect, Mr. Papa emphasizes stewardship of the landscape. His design interests focus on the relationship between the built and natural systems and he strives to provide creative planning and design solutions that improve the quality of life for people, while protecting and enhancing the environmental systems. This often means balancing the requirements of the client, architecture and the land to achieve harmonious design solutions. He promotes low impact development strategies (LIDs) as part of his site design process to create / enhance environmental and ecological systems through managed used of storm water.
Mark utilizes GIS technology software in developing and understanding spatial and programmatic relationships between existing landscape / site conditions and the reuse planning of the landscape. GIS organizes layers of geographic data that can help reveal reuse opportunities and constraints that might not be clearly visible.
Mr. Papa favors a multidisciplinary approach to design. Professionals, such as architects, landscape architects, planners, engineers, and environmentalists need to formulate synergistic design solutions to achieve successful, sustainable and memorable landscapes. The compilation of talent and experience, which a multidisciplinary team contributes to the design process, is invaluable in the creation of quality projects.
Mr. Papa has a Bachelor's in Landscape Architecture, from the University of Connecticut. While there, he was awarded the ASLA Certificate of Honor award for excellence in the study of Landscape Architecture. He holds a professional certificate in Geographical Information System (GIS) from the University of New Haven's Graduate School, and he is a licensed Landscape Architect in Connecticut (#905).
